'Believe to Achieve'

Week 1 (23.3.20)

Friday 27th March 2020

Good morning!

We are nearly one week down. It's been lovely to see so much of your work. Please continue to send this to our email addresses (katie.morton@southglade.nottingham.sch.uk and harris.pericleous@southglade.nottingham.sch.uk ) so we can add photos to the website. It might be nice to see what some of your friends have been getting up to...

Today there are two activities; maths and music.Try the maths questions below and see how much you can remember about our learning on fractions. If there is anything you are struggling with or can't remember, either move on to the next question or see if you can find the answer out online. The BBC bitesize website is quite useful https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhdwxnb

The Music teachers have recorded this lesson for you to try, focusing on pulse and beat.

Morning!

Something a little different today, you are going to become experts on all things space and astronaut related! This is a link to the NASA website - https://www.nasa.gov/ which has loads of different activities, information and pictures to explore. Some links ask you to choose your age range, however this is an American website so we are GRADE 3, rather than year 4.

You can use your imagination and create ANYTHING based on the information you find, but here are some ideas to get your started...

- Make a rocket out of recycled materials

- Make the solar system out of recycled materials

- Make universe slime and write your own instructions

- Read an astronauts tips for living in space - what would your tips be for living on Earth? What would your tips be for learning at home? What would your tips be for being a Southglade pupil?

- Listen to podcasts and create a poster for your findings.

- Read an e-book

- Create a fact file for an astronaut

- Make your own podcast as a guide to being a year 4 pupil

- Look at the image galleries and re-create your own space art

- Create an information booklet

- Write a diary pretending you are an astronaut

- Create a presentation of all your findings and perform it to your family

- Play the educational games

- Learn about different missions in the 'missions' tab e.g. watch videos on the hubble space telescope

Please send us any examples of work we have set, as well as practical activities you are doing around the house - we would love to see what you are up to and put them on our class page so your friends can see what you're up to!

Email them to: harris.pericleous@southglade.nottingham.sch.uk or katie.morton@southglade.nottingham.sch.uk

I hope you enjoy today's task. Additionally, this website is currently free to sign up, with loads of great ebooks that you can choose for yourself - https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ (We are not expecting you to do all of this in one day, it is just an additional resource to use if you are stuck for ideas).

Happy learning - perhaps we have a future astronaut hiding in year 4!

Wednesday 25th March 2020

Buenos dias! Today we have set some Spanish activities for you! Mrs Drage has recommended some activities, based on what you have learnt, but you may need to use the internet to help you find the meaning of words you are unsure of/ check your answers!

Please feel free to email us with any questions you may have and to show your work off! We will be posting your work on our class page so you can see what all your friends are up to - this can be work we have set or any other practical learning you are doing.

Happy learning!

Tuesday 24th March 2020

Good morning!

Don't forget that Joe Wickes streams his live PE lesson at 9am.
https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1/videos?app=desktop

Your task for today is to complete one of the activities based on the picture below.

Question time
Why do you think the man practises his magic using chairs?

What other magic do you think the man possesses?

Why do you think he is in a field?

What do you think his home is like?
If you could perform magic, what power/ability would you most like to have?

Improve the sentences
How could you make these sentences better? Could you add adjectives, use commas in a list and adverbs?

The chair floated in the air.

The magician used his powers.

He wore a hat and a waistcoat.

Story starter

Can you write a story about the man who can perform magic?

He held them with his mind. He controlled them. The chairs swirled around him, dancing as if held by invisible strings. He practised on chairs, however his powers allowed him to manipulate things far more complex than that...

Monday 23rd March 2020

Today's task: https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1 at 9am every morning Joe Wicks (thebodycoach) will be live streaming a workout for children to do at home on his youtube channel. This is a great way to get your kids active and their brains warmed up, ready to try an activity out of their packs or complete reading, spelling and timestables. If you miss the live workout, he has loads of other videos you can follow.

Extension: could you write instructions for your own workout video?

We hope all parents and children are safe. This is a difficult time for everyone, so we hope parents are not too hard on themselves whilst trying to home school their children - teaching them strength, kindness, resilience and how to look after each other in such a difficult situation is just as important and something I'm sure has come naturally at this time.
