Watch the day 5 ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ video with a grown up. If you don’t have the book you can use the pictures on the video.

 

Using post it notes or little squares of paper use ladybird dots to draw dice patterns to 6. Lay these out on the floor in front of you. Get something that you can point at the dice patterns with (a stick will do). Get your grown up to shout out the numbers that go with the dice pattern and see if you can point at the correct pattern as quickly as possible after they have said the number!

Think about what the baddies did in the story. We can all make mistakes and silly choices at times, the important thing is that we learn and grow from them. Were the baddies making good or bad choices? What could they have done differently or better next time to make good choices?

In the story, the two baddies keep on stealing the poor hen’s eggs. Create your own eggs by drawing egg shapes, decorating them and cutting them out. Then, lay them out on a table of another flat surface and get a grown up to cover them up and take one from under the cover. When the grown up lifts up the cover can you tell them which egg they have taken? You could take it in turns to take the eggs and guess which one has been taken.

Today’s Challenge

Create a story stone by decorating a pebble or rock from your garden to look like your favourite animal from the story.

 

Once you have created your story stone you could create others to retell the story with or hide it in your local area to cheer other people up when they find it.

In the story, the two baddies make a map of the farm to come up with their cunning plan. Can you make your own map of the farm to protect it from the baddies? Where would you put the different animals ?Which things from the farm will you need? The pond? The house? the barn?

Positional Language

Collect or make some of the animals from the story. Get someone to hide them from you. Once they are hidden, go on a hunt for the animals and when you find them say where they are. For example, the ladybird is under the bed.

With a grown up, close your eyes and see if you can understand and follow instructions that use positional language to get around your house. Afterwards, you could swap and try to use positional language to direct your grown up around the house.

Sort the animals from the story into different categories. For example, which ones can fly, which ones can swim, how many legs they have etc…

Print out the worksheet below or find it in your home learning pack and have a go at sorting out the minibeasts that have legs from the ones that don’t have legs.

 

Have a go at making ladybird toast by cutting out circles from slices of bread and spreading raspberry or strawberry jam on top. If you have chocolate buttons at home you could use these to make the ladybird’s spots.
