Multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number

Today's lesson focuses on starting to use a formal written method for multiplication. This allows us to work out bigger sums in an easier way. Last week, you looked at efficient multiplication and how you can choose the best method to work out the sum you are looking at, and we recap this in today's lesson.

 

We also look at multiplying using three different methods; number line, base 10 and part-part whole. This is just to show you the different methods you can use, and hopefully you will find one that is easier than the others!
