'Believe to Achieve'

Spelling rule- adding the suffix ‘y’

This week we are going to be learning about a new suffix. This is the suffix ‘y’. It makes the ‘ee’ sound at the end of the word such as happy, juicy and funny.

Can you think of some words that end in y? Have a go at writing some below?

Today we are just going to be looking at root words which only need a ‘y’ adding to it.

Can you add the suffix ‘y’ to these words and write them in a sentence?

Thirst - _______________

Today we are going to be thinking about Captain Sir Tom Moore and his accomplishments last year. He was able to raise a staggering £32 million by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. He completed a selfless act and showed what a real life hero looks like.

Today we are going to think about how we can support others who have been affected over the last year due to coronavirus, including those in our community. How can we be inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore to be selfless and raise money for others.

Have a go today at thinking about a cause you would like to raise money for. This may be for families in the community, school, the local church or perhaps you have an idea of a project you would like to start.

Some ideas may be;

A new outdoor reading area at school.

Food packages for families in the community.

Arts and crafts resources for schools and churches.

New playground equipment at school.

When you have a cause, think about what we could do in Year 2 (or perhaps as a school) to raise money.

Some ideas may be;

100 laps of the playground

Sending out 100 care/food packages

Washing 100 cars

reading 100 books

completing 100 minutes of physical activity

Have a go at completing a bright and colourful poster showing what cause you want to raise money for and how we could raise the money. Please then send it in to your class teacher so they can pass it on to Mrs Thomas. Mrs Thomas will then pick a winner and Year 2 will then begin your project to raise money for your chosen cause.

We can't wait to see what you decide!
