Curriculum Driver
Week Three
We spent this week exploring artefacts and discussed how they painted a picture of what the Vikings were like. We also learnt about the Viking raid on Lindisfarne, and read through accounts from Anglo-Saxon writers to find out more about why the Vikings gained a bad reputation. Then, we wrote a diary entry from the perspective of a Viking, explaining their reasoning for attacking the monastery.
Week Two
In our curriculum lessons this week, we focused on comparing Anglo-Saxon Britain to modern day Britain. We researched the following areas and discussed the similarities and differences between the two eras:
- clothing and jewellery
- religion and Gods
- houses and food
- art and craft/ leisure
- rhyme and writing
Week One
This week we started our new curriculum driver- History. We are looking at The Vikings! We started with a toilet roll timeline to help us develop our chronological understanding. We spoke about Roman Britain and how the Anglo-Saxon period followed. Then, we looked at where the Vikings travelled from and where they settled in Britain, which helped us find Viking place names.
