Bulgaria Afternoon 28.02.2023
Thursday 28th February 2023
At Southglade we celebrated all things Bulgaria which was kick started by a lovely Bulgarian lunch.
All classes learned a little about Bulgaria including its location, national dish, most popular city and the languages spoken in Bulgaria.
Year 1 and Year 5 teamed up together to learn about Olympic hurdler Yordanka Donkova. They watched a video of her breaking world records and even had a go at some hurdle races themselves. After their hurdles races, Year 1 and Year 5 decorated their own medals to celebrate Yordanka's achievements.
Year 6 and Year 3 put their cooking skills to the test as they prepared a Bulgarian Shopska salad. The children recapped knife safety skills and how to be safe in the kitchen. They worked in groups and took it in turns to chop the salad ingredients. At the end they enjoyed trying their salads and some children even went home and replicated this for their families.
Year 4 focused their afternoon on the work of Bulgarian artist Vladimir Dimitrov. They used new skills and equipment such as stencils and rolling ink to achieve their impression of Vladimir's art. The children created their own pattern on the stencil. They rolled the ink onto their stencil and repeatedly printed this onto their paper to achieve their background. The children then added their own photos to complete their pictures.
Year 2 and children in the base explored art by Alexander Telalim. Telalim is famous for his amazing water colour art which Year 2 recreated. They used water colour paints to paint flowers inspired by Telalim.
