'Believe to Achieve'

Autumn 2

Welcome back to our F2 children, after a long and well deserved Autumn break!

We hope you all had a fantastic time celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night. We are super excited to have you back and continue our learning. This term, the children will be receiving a decodable book that they will be able to take home and read - please try and read as much as much as you can with your child (3 times a week minimum) as this supports them with their learning and phonic skills.

Any questions, please feel free to ask! smiley

This half term our book is

'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs' by Ian Whybrow

This book is an amazing story all about a little boy who finds a box of dinosaurs in his attic and puts them into a bucket to keep them safe! However, one day, Harry leaves his bucketful of dinosaurs on the train! Will Harry find his dinosaurs? We hope so!

We will be exploring what a dinosaur is like and the children will have an opportunity to play with dinosaurs in the small world area, paint and write about dinosaurs and we will even have a fossil investigation station!

We have had many celebrations already this half term - Remembrance Day and Diwali. The children enjoyed painting poppies and creating and decorating colourful lanterns.

Sounds we learnt so far this half term - j, v, w, x, y

The children loved baking dinosaur biscuits! They rolled out their own piece of dough and used stencils to create the dinosaur shape.

New sounds this week - z, qu, ch & tricky words

We visited the school library this week where the children enjoyed choosing a book to look at. It's wonderful going to the library and hearing the children independently use their blending skills to read books meant for adults to read. The children have also gotten really good at spotting tricky words!

Final sounds learnt this half term - nk, ng, th & sh

What an amazing 3 weeks we have had immersing ourselves in the world of dinosaurs! The children became time travellers and travelled to pre-historic times to see how dinosaurs lived. The focus was to improve and expand the children's vocabulary so that they could confidently answer the 'I wonder' question - can you describe a dinosaur?
