Thu 16 May 2019 The Year 6 Team

    Congratulations

A huge well done to our truly wonderful year 6 pupils. You have been incredible this week whilst taking your SATS.

We are so proud of how well you have approached these tests and the resilience and positive attitudes that you have displayed throughout.

School will receive the results for the tests on the 10th of July and children will find out their individual results during that week.

Once more, well done to everyone!

Wed 15 May 2019 Mr Pegram

    Football Champions!!!

A huge congratulations to Southglade Primary School's football team who are the City North champions.

Over the season they competed magnificently against other schools across the north of the city with a fantastic record of:

    Played 10  Won 7 Drawn 2 Lost 1  Points 27

They scored a brilliant 46 goals (20 more than any other team in the league)  whilst conceding a miserly 10 goals. Their goal difference was +36; the next best team had a goal difference of +14.

We are SO proud of you all and all that you have achieved. A special thanks goes to Mr Shuttleworth and Mrs Finnie who have given up several evenings to support the fantastic football team. Also thank-you to all of the parents who have supported the team through some very cold and wintery evenings!

Watch out Manchester City and Liverpool!

  • Southglade's Act of Kindness

Wed 15 May 2019 Miss Smith

On Wednesday 15th May, Miss Smith and 12 Y2/Y3 children met with Kerry Lovell from Nottingham Hospice to discuss what happens at the Hospice and how they help people. We talked about how the volunteers and employees support people when they visit and how these people are unwell so they come to have care in the day.

We heard the story of 'The Paper Dolls' and talked about how we can show kindness in the community, creating a kindness acrostic poem linked to the words we heard the residents had said about their time at the Hospice. Over the next few weeks we are going to create some artwork and poetry to support the people at the hospice by showing them kindness and hopefully brightening their day.

74% of children from y1-y6 have taken place in a school club after school which is an amazing figure.

New letters have been sent out today with details of new school clubs that will be taking place in the final half-term.

A massive thank-you to all of the staff who have organised a club this year and to Miss Finnie and Mrs Hampson who have been in charge of co-ordinating school club provision this year and ensuring that our school clubs are inclusive and accessible to all.

  • Year 4 Colwick Park Residential

Wed 01 May 2019 Mr Pegram

31 Y4 children enjoyed an exciting 24 hours at Colwick Park camping in tents under the stars. We were truly blessed with dry, warm weather during the day but cold and clear conditions at night.

The children enjoyed sharing a tent with their tent partner, orienteering using maps to hunt for numbered locations and canoeing on the Colwick Lake. They were all really well behaved and respectful and did a great job of tidying up the camp this morning.

A big thank-you to Mr Easton for organising the trip and also to Mrs Miller, Miss Fyfe and Mrs Finnie who supported the children brilliantly so that they all had a memorable 24hrs.

Below are a few pictures- I am sure more information will be placed on the y4 blog in due course.

  • Library Fundraiser-17th May 2019

Mon 29 Apr 2019 Children at Southglade

    Library Fundraiser- 17th May 2019

Please read the message below from our wonderful children detailing why our library fundraiser is so important to them:

Please help us! At the moment our library is in complete devastation, it’s so messy we don’t even want to venture up there anymore. It’s such a shame because the space could be eye-popping, exciting and cosy, we just need your help to raise enough money to make it this way. At the moment, we have an incredible design for the new space, which we were so excited to see – it looks incredible! But unfortunately, this makes it quite expensive and school just hasn’t got enough funds. This is why we have decided to arrange a sponsored fundraiser, on the 17th of May, where each phase will think of some super-fun activities to try out. This might be: read for an half-an- hour straight, a sponsored skip or even a sponsored silence. Anything you give us will help, even the smallest amount so please help us to get the library we deserve. We will be so grateful for your help.

So, please will you help us?

  • Year 5 Visit to Emilios Restaurant

Thu 25 Apr 2019 Mr Pegram

Yesterday Year 5 had the amazing opportunity to visit the fabulous Emilio's restaurant to get a taste of what Greek food and culture is like.

They enjoyed the following delicious cuisine:

    - a selection of breads and dips

    - beef stifado with rice

    - sumptuous chocolate cake (with cream for the adults)

They then participated in some Greek dancing before returning to school for the end of the day. Their behaviour was excellent and they all returned well fed and very happy with the wonderful experiences they had enjoyed.

  • Awe and Wonder Week

Thu 25 Apr 2019 Mr Pegram

This week has been our second awe and wonder week for children from Foundation Stage to Y5.

The children have been answering an enquiry question in a creative and inspiring way.

The enquiry questions are as follows:

F1: I wonder what makes us healthy?

F2: I wonder why do bears live in cages?

Y1: I wonder what makes Britain great?

Y2: I wonder how are emotions make us feel?

Y3: I wonder... are all explosions disruptive?

Y4: I wonder.. do all birds fly?

Y5: I wonder how life in Greece is different?

Children have been seen designing bright and colourful wings for a fashion show; preparing for a Great British afternoon tea with cakes and sandwiches; exploring volcanic explosions; and experiencing authentic Greek food and dancing at a Greek restaurant.

Please visit the class pages to get a fully flavour of what has been going on across the school this week.
