  • Amazing Poem Written About the Southglade Boat

Thu 06 Jun 2019 Mr Pegram

We were very excited to receive a poem from a member of the local community about the boat that children use to go to on magical adventures. A huge thank-you to Mrs Pearson who wrote this magnificent poem. We cannot wait to read this poem to all of the children in an assembly!

    The Magic Boat

There's a boat in our playground

    Empty and still

    But when we climb aboard

    We get such a thrill

    We sail to faraway places

    With warm sunny beaches

    Tall palm trees

    And of course no teachers

    We play in the sun

    Having so much fun

But all too soon a distant bell sounds

    Playtime is over

Its time for us to sail back

    We've lessons to do

    And so much to learn

But at playtime tomorrow we will return

    We'll set sail again

    Making so many memories

    That forever in our dreams

    They will remain.

  • Play Leaders

Wed 05 Jun 2019 Mrs Morton
We have introduced Play Leaders to help make lunchtimes more fun for our children at Southglade.
Play Leaders work in pairs to lead an activity on the playground. There are different activities each day ranging from: swing ball, throwing and catching games, skipping, hula-hoops, reading, colouring, jigsaw puzzles, dancing and a bubble station. We look forward to seeing the Play Leaders develop their leadership roles over the rest of the year.
  • Championship Swimming Gala

Wed 05 Jun 2019 Mrs Finnie

Southglade Primary School took part in a swimming gala yesterday at Ken Martin Leisure Centre. A team of 6 boys and 8 girls took part and displayed outstanding effort, resilience and commitment in a wide series of races. The children were competing against schools from the whole of Nottingham City and did a brilliant job of showcasing their swimming ability. Our children had a great time taking part and everyone gave 100% in their individual races- some children even finished 1st in their individual races.

We are so proud of you and the talent you showed: Southglade Primary School finished in 4th place overall which is a great effort considering this was a Nottingham City wide competition.

    Keep up the amazing effort.

  • Year 6 bikeability

Tue 04 Jun 2019 Mr Pegram

Today a group of y6 children started their bikeability course with trained cycling instructors. Day 1 takes place on the playground with days 2-4 on local roads. All the children displayed a great attitude and followed the instructions carefully and conscientiously with excellent behaviour observed by all. The afternoon group were particularly resilient as the weather deteriorated.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Learning Values

Fri 24 May 2019 Mr Pegram/ Mrs Morton

Today we celebrated our children who have been showcasing our learning value this half term which was independence.

Children have been displaying this quality whilst approaching their work in the classroom or on visits such as residentials.

One child from each class was awarded a special certificate and their parents were secretly invited to a special celebration assembly.

The  children also attended a special afternoon tea party with Mrs Hyland, Mrs Morton and Mr Pegram.

Next half term our learning value will be tolerance and there will be one final assembly linked to this learning value on the 24th of July.

  • Firefighters Visit

Fri 24 May 2019 Mr Pegram
This morning a group of firefighters visited Southglade Primary School to speak to the year 1 pupils about their job. The children had written them letters which had lots of questions within them which they then answered. Year 1 were able to meet the firefighters and explore the fire engine. Then the firefighters received a phone call which meant they had to go to a real-life emergency.
  • Year 2 SATs

Thu 23 May 2019 Mr Pegram

Year 2 children have been working really hard all week completing their year 2 SATs. They have one more paper to go and they should be congratulated for completing them in such a sensible and focused way. A big thank-you to all the staff in year 2 who have worked incredibly hard to ensure the children are prepared for their tests and also marking huge numbers of papers this week.

Keep up the great work Year 2.

  • EAL Afternoon

Thu 23 May 2019 Mr Pegram

Today was our second EAL afternoon and our theme this half-term was the country of Poland. Children learnt about the culture, language and geography of Poland and were taught some key words and phrases by the Polish children in their year groups. They all did a fabulous job as teachers. The same children then enjoyed a mini Polish feast in the school hall with their fellow Poles. They all had a brilliant time- a huge thanks must go to Mrs Della Rocca who once more planned and resources activities across the school.

More information and photos will be posted in the EAL section of the school website.

  • Kurling Champions

Tue 21 May 2019 Mr Pegram/ Miss Fyfe

Today, a team of eight year 5 and year 6 pupils travelled to Harvey Hadden Stadium with Miss Fyfe and Mrs Green for a Nottingham City Kurling Championship.

The team played brilliantly and after a set of games the results were announced...…. and Southglade Primary School were declared the Kurling champions for the whole of Nottingham City.

This is a fantastic result and adds to a series of sporting successes for the school in recent weeks.

What makes our school even prouder, was that their behaviour was impeccable throughout with great sportsmanship on show throughout.

Photos of the winning team will be added in due course!

Once more, a huge well done!!
