Spring 1
Week 4
This week we have continued to look at our focus book 'Superworm' by Julia Donaldson BUT we have had a big shock in Nursery as Superworm has gone missing! We can't find him anywhere at all. We have spent this week looking for Superworm around our classroom- using positional language such as 'under, next to, on top of' to describe places where Superworm might have gone. Unfortunately he still hasn't turned up so we are continuing to use our handmade binoculars to search for him. We have made some fantastic Superworm missing posters this week, which we have displayed around the classroom and corridors to see if anyone can help us in our search.
This week we have also celebrated 'Aspirations day'. We were visited by a nurse and learnt all about what she does in her job. We then thought about what jobs the children would like to do when they grew up. It was wonderful to see all their ideas!
Our rhyme of the week was 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' and our focus sound has been 'g' for goat, grape, girl and gate. In Maths we have been exploring the faces on common 3D shapes.
Superworm
This week we have been reading our focus book Superworm by Julia Donaldson. We have been learning the signs for the Superworm chant during our carpet time and are getting really good at recalling this independently. Have a go at showing your grown ups at home!

Our rhyme of the week this week has been 'A sailor went to sea, sea, sea' and we have been listening our for words that rhyme in the song. In Phonics we have been learning about the initial sound 'd' such as in the words duck, door and den. In maths we have been looking at subitising. We can recognise a collection of objects up to 5 without counting them. Well done Nursery!
In our continuous provision we have been practicing our fine motor skills through threading to make our own worms, using our scissor skills to cute and make creatures from our story, building homes for our lego animals, practicing our mark making by colouring Superworm pictures and having lots of fun outside playing in the shaving foam and saving the animals.
Exploring the classroom
Wow! What a great first couple of weeks back after Christmas. We have welcomed lots of new friends into our Nursery and have loved exploring our new focus - Superheroes!
Our rhyme of the week has been '1,2,3,4,5 Once I caught a fish alive'. And our focus sound has been 'i' for iguana, igloo, insect and invitation.
In maths we have been learning about 'one more'. We have had lots of fun finding using different maths resources to practice this!
In our focus work we have been learning about being healthy and strong- just like a superhero! We have looked at healthy and unhealthy foods. We even used some fruit and vegetables to help us print repeating patterns. We have also been learning about the importance of food, water, sleep and exercise to keep us as healthy as possible.
Nursery Homework Menu
Here is our homework menu for this term. We would love to see pictures of you trying any of these activities at home!
Welcome back!
We are excited to see all the children back after the Christmas break, and even more excited to have welcomed some of our lovely new starters into Nursery.
This half term our enquiry question is 'I wonder what my superpower is'. We will be reading 'Supertato' by Sue Hendra, Superworm by Julia Donaldson and Real Superheroes by Julia Seal. We will be learning about how to keep fit and healthy, how to show kindness to all and how others help us.
