This document shows how the foundational skills and knowledge are introduced and progressed across EYFS, working towards reaching the Early Learning Goals in each area of learning. In the nursery the main focus is on the Prime Areas of Learning, in particular Communication and Language, to prepare children for moving into Reception. 

In the Reception Year, while there is still a lot of work done around the Prima Areas, our main focus moves to Literacy (Reading and writing) and Mathematics. Through our half termly topics and carefully chosen focus books, children also learn the foundations for other subject areas such as history and science.

Skills and knowledge are introduced in a way that builds upon previous experiences. In this way we ensure that children are ready to start Year 1 and the National Curriculum.
