    Attendance Assembly

Attendance is very important to us at Southglade. We want to ensure that all pupils make the most of their learning opportunities and enjoy coming to school every day.

At the start of each week, the Headteacher shares class attendance from the previous week and celebrates the classes who have achieved attendance above 96% with a celebratory clap.

Classes with attendance over 98% are rewarded with a Spin on the Attendance Wheel, where the spin decides a fun class reward for the week.

Those classes who achieve 100%, will receive a celebratory clap, a Spin on the Attendance Wheel and a class party!

Please encourage your child to attend school every day.

We have so much learning planned and lots of exciting opportunities for our Southglade children each and every day, and we don’t want them to miss out!

    Southglader of the Week

Our 'Southglader of the Week' assemblies showcase children from each class who have demonstrated the school code of conduct (RESPECT) and learning values, which are:

    Responsibility

    Empowerment

    Safe

    Perseverance

    Empathy

    Collaboration

    Tolerance

Teachers select children each week and share how they have shown the learning value for that week. The children then get to walk down our very special red carpet to receive their 'Southglader of the Week' certificate and wrist band.

This is a really special part of our week where we get to celebrate those children who show RESPECT.

Learning Values, British Values and National Themes

Each week, we deliver assemblies using a book-based approach to explore topics linked to our school learning values, British values, protected characteristics, and national themes such as Black History Month.

Through these assemblies, pupils learn about kindness and tolerance, human rights, well-being and mental health awareness, neurodiversity, pride, and many other important themes that help them grow into confident, caring individuals.

    International, National or World day

    Focused day in school

    British Values links

    Protected Characteristics

    Picture News

Once a week, we have an in-class assembly where we use 'Picture News' resource to share with the pupils a news story, a focus question and how the news story links to protected characteristics, British Values and UN Articles, which links directly with the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) work we do.

Here are some examples of the Picture News resources we use:

    Singing Assembly

Each week, we have a whole school singing assembly where the children are taught singing by our Music Lead. The children sing for enjoyment and learn skills such as posture and breathing, rhythmic awareness, structure and singing in parts and rounds and many more.

This provides an inspiring opportunity for children to explore their passion for singing and celebrate a shared love of music.
