  • Young Writers-National Literacy Trust

    Thu 29 Jan 2026

Miss Storer has done a brilliant job of organising our Young Writers competition. In assembly, we celebrated the children who had taken part in the competition and have had their writing published into a very special book. The children received certificates, a bookmark and stickers to celebrate their writing efforts and fabulous creative writing.

The Young Writers competition empowers pupils to choose what they write about and the format they write in. The pupils who have taken part in Young Writers feel more confident in their writing abilities, enjoy writing more, and see writing for enjoyment more positively.

  • Aspirations Wellbeing Day

Wed 28 Jan 2026 Mrs Morton

We were delighted to welcome a wide range of visitors who generously shared their experiences, advice, and career journeys for our Aspirations Wellbeing Day. Pupils were inspired by Joe Ferguson, GB runner, who spoke about resilience, goal-setting, and the importance of mental wellbeing in elite sport. Sam Oldham, Olympic gymnastics medallist, captivated students with his journey to the Olympics, highlighting determination, overcoming setbacks, and believing in yourself.

We were also joined by professionals from the Police, Nursing, Building and Construction, Education, and Science, offering valuable insights into their careers, training routes, and the skills needed to succeed. These sessions helped students make real-world connections between their learning and future aspirations. The day was engaging for all pupils and encouraged students to think about their futures. We would like to thank all our visitors for making the day so memorable and impactful.

Recognition from the Secretary of State for Education

We are delighted to share that Southglade has received a letter of congratulations from the Secretary of State for Education, Bridget Phillipson, recognising our excellent outcomes, especially for pupils who are disadvantaged, at the end of the 2024/25 academic year.

The letter praised our performance as being “among the very best nationally” and highlighted the dedication of our staff, the hard work of our pupils, and our continued focus on giving every child the best possible opportunities to succeed.

We are incredibly proud of our whole school community and grateful for this national recognition of our work.

"Your school’s performance places it among the very best nationally, and this is a significant achievement."

  • Max and Milo

Thu 22 Jan 2026 Mr Pegram

    Meet Max and Milo

At Southglade Primary School we have 2 beautiful rabbits who are an important part of our school community.

They live just outside the year 5 classrooms and the children across school take great care of them on a daily basis making sure that they have the right food, water and that their cages are kept clean and tidy.

Max and Milo also visit some classes when they have heard that classes are behaving well. They enjoy a hop around and some exercise.

They also enjoy getting brushed and groomed by many children and receiving one or two treats each day.

During the holidays, they visit Stonebridge City Farm where they are brilliantly looked after- please visit them if you get a chance during February half-term

Max and Milo are available to visit homes over the weekend so if you are interested in having a very well behaved rabbit visit for the weekend then please contact Mr Pegram or Mrs Carter by phoning school on 01159155763

  • Southglader of the Week Assembly

    Fri 16 Jan 2026

Our 'Southglader of the Week' assemblies showcase children from each class who have demonstrated the school code of conduct (RESPECT) and learning values, which are:

    Responsibility

    Empowerment

    Safe

    Perseverance

    Empathy

    Collaboration

    Tolerance

Teachers select children each week and share how they have shown the learning value for that week. The children then get to walk down our very special red carpet to receive their 'Southglader of the Week' certificate and wrist band.

This is a really special part of our week where we get to celebrate those children who show RESPECT.

  • Area Band Performance at the Albert Hall

Mon 08 Dec 2025 Mr Pegram

On Monday 8th December, a large group of y5 and y6 pupils attended a choir and area band Christmas concert at the Albert Hall.

The children performed a range of pieces to a packed auditorium. It was a super Christmassy event that put everyone in the best of festive spirits.

A big thank-you to Mr Smith and Miss Parr who give up time each week to support children at Area Band and also the school choir.

There will be more performances later in the year which we cannot wait to attend.
