F2 and Y1 Phonics and Reading Parent Meeting
Thu 30 Sep 2021On Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th September we hosted our first parent meetings of the year for F2 and Y1 parents based on phonics and reading. Thank you to everyone who attended the meetings. We spoke about the different phonics terminology we use, our phonics scheme, provided a range of phonics resources and discussed the reading opportunities provided in school and at home.
All parents will receive the phonics information and we will provide extra information for any parent who requests further support.
Our main focus is read, read, read at every opportunity, help your child to blend and apply phonics sounds they have been exposed to and ensure they have a love of reading.

Year 1 and 2 Autumn Adventurers
Tue 28 Sep 2021Year 1 and 2 had the most amazing day taking part in Autumn Adventures. They showed so much courage, confidence and amazing listening focusing on developing some outdoor and adventure skills.
Fire pit - they roasted marshmallows, made popcorn looking at changes of state and learned about the fire safety triangle.
Archery - We pretended to be Robin Hood and learned how to use a bow and arrow to safely shoot our arrows to our targets.
Climbing wall - using our balance and strength we were able to climb all the way up to the top of the wall to reach the moon!
Year 1 and 2 impressed the instructors so much, as well as all the staff and we were so proud of how much resilience everyone showed with all the activities, especially the climbing wall.

Music Update
Fri 24 Sep 2021Music Update
Children across Y4-Y6 had their first lesson with their own musical instrument (either a trumpet or trombone). These musical instruments will eventually be sent home for children to practice - they will then need to be brought in every single Friday so the children can benefit from their weekly music tuition.
This is such a wonderful opportunity for our children to excel at learning an instrument this year- thanks to Miss Brierley for organising this.
Area Band
There are still spaces in the y5-y6 Area Band. This will take place at Southglade Primary and Nursery School on a Tuesday after school and will finish at 4.55pm
Please contact your child's class teacher if you would want your child to take part in this exciting opportunity.
