  • Y5 Music Camp

Wed 11 Sep 2024 Mr Pegram

On Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th September, a group of Y5 children went on a Music Camp into the Derbyshire countryside where they met with children from other schools to form a bigger band with many different types of instruments. The Southgladers were part of the brass band with trumpets and trombones being their instruments.

Miss Parr reported that the children were fantastically well behaved and all had a great time.

They will now be taking part in Area Band at Robin Hood School on a Tuesday.

Well done to everyone and a massive thank-you to Miss Parr for giving up some of her own time to support the children on their musical adventures.

  • Y6 Holocaust Centre Visit

Mon 09 Sep 2024 Miss Finnie

On Friday 6th September, Year 6 went on their first trip of the year to help them understand the impact that WW2 had on children across the continent of Europe. This trip helped them to understand how Jewish children were harmed by the actions of the Nazis in Germany and in occupied Europe. They followed the story of a boy called Leo Stein who was persecuted simply because of his religion. They used empathy to put themselves in the shoes of others.

Their teachers reported that they were really engaged for the whole day.

  • Y4 Artist

Tue 14 May 2024 Mrs Dowse

Today, in year 4 we worked with a local ceramic artist, Anna Collete. The children are focusing on insects that migrate and creating 3D  insects in art. Today they had the chance to explore Anna's art work which is a vast collection of ceramic insects, and then she showed them how to create an insect from clay using different techniques to create texture. The insects have all flown off to be fired in her kiln, and in a few weeks she will return so that the children can glaze and paint their work.

We look forward to seeing the completed masterpieces!

Wed 01 May 2024 Mr Pegram

Today, the whole school have enjoyed a careers' focused day with loads of exciting visitors ; the aim and intention of this day being to inspire children to choose amazing careers when they are older.

We had a Paralympian- Ollie Hynd- visit school to share his journey towards winning gold medals at the Paralympics and World Championships. His assembly was truly inspiring and memorable and the children at Southglade listened so carefully to him.

We also had visits from a wide variety of other inspiring people who work in pharmacy, security, nursing, police and the fire service.

A massive thanks to Mrs Morton who has spent a long time organising this great day.
