Wed 25 Sep 2019 Mrs Morton

The School Council election campaigns have started for this academic year. The children have voted for 4 School Councillor candidates to represent their class. These children have recorded a short video explaining why their peers should vote for them. You can see these videos here https://www.southgladeprimary.co.uk/autumn-term/. This week, the children will be making their final vote and our new School Council will be announced in the week commencing 30th September!

  • Music Camp

Wed 18 Sep 2019 Khalil and Ameyah

On Friday 13th of September, 5 wonderful year 5 musicians went to Ilam Hall in the Peak District for a Music Camp. They were accompanied by Miss Parr who gave up part of her weekend so our musicians could have a brilliant time.

The staff at Ilam Hall were very kind and helped all of the children to load their baggage in their dormitories. Then, they went straight to the main hall to play their instruments- Southglade's instruments were the trombone and the trumpet. The children were brilliant and Southglade's group won the points tournament as part of the best group.

During the night-time, they went on a very spooky night walk full of unexpected surprises.

Overall, the children had a brilliant time.

  • Meet the Bears

Thu 12 Sep 2019 Mr Pegram

On Tuesday a group of children went to Build a Bear to create our new family of bears for the school year.

The children who were chosen were all pupils who had been identified as being outstanding and respectful role models by their class teachers.

The bears have the following names:

Sparkles (monkey) is our new bear for kindness.

Poppy (princess bear) is our new uniform bear.
Rainbow (rabbit in the baseball cap) is the new bear for attendance.

We cannot wait to introduce the children to them.

  • Aldi Team GB Stickers

    Thu 12 Sep 2019

This September we are supporting the Aldi promotion ‘Get Set to Eat Fresh.’ From 6th September to 3rd November, if you spend £30 or more in any ALDI store, you will receive a special Team GB sticker. We kindly ask that you bring these into school so that we can complete our poster. Once we have collected 300 stickers as a school, we will receive an exclusive schools sports kit and could win one of twenty £20,000 prizes!

There will be a collection tub on the front desk in the Main Reception for the stickers to be deposited.

  • The Library

Mon 09 Sep 2019 Mr Pegram and Mrs Smith

Back in May we asked our school community for help in raising money to redevelop our school library. Your response was AMAZING and totally exceeded our wildest dreams for the amount of money that our whole school sponsored event raised- a tremendous £3,095.

This money has now been spent creating a far more child-friendly library and making it an inviting space to enable our pupils to develop a life-long love for reading. Children will soon be using the library regularly for classroom sessions and Mrs Adams, in charge of the school library, will be working with groups of children encouraging them to develop a love of books. The library will be open at lunchtimes and on some days after school. Look out for more updates; thank-you once more for your support. We are all truly thankful to have such supportive parents and family working together with us at Southglade Primary and Nursery School.

  • First Day Back

Tue 03 Sep 2019 Mr Pegram

We were all very excited to meet our new classes today. All the children looked so smart in their fantastic school uniform and smart shoes. It was amazing to see how much they had all grown over the Summer holidays.

This week we are focusing on PSHE style activities which will help to shape and mould our successful classes for the year ahead.

Read the class pages for more information as the week and term progresses.
