  • Learning Values

Fri 24 May 2019 Mr Pegram/ Mrs Morton

Today we celebrated our children who have been showcasing our learning value this half term which was independence.

Children have been displaying this quality whilst approaching their work in the classroom or on visits such as residentials.

One child from each class was awarded a special certificate and their parents were secretly invited to a special celebration assembly.

The  children also attended a special afternoon tea party with Mrs Hyland, Mrs Morton and Mr Pegram.

Next half term our learning value will be tolerance and there will be one final assembly linked to this learning value on the 24th of July.

  • Firefighters Visit

Fri 24 May 2019 Mr Pegram
This morning a group of firefighters visited Southglade Primary School to speak to the year 1 pupils about their job. The children had written them letters which had lots of questions within them which they then answered. Year 1 were able to meet the firefighters and explore the fire engine. Then the firefighters received a phone call which meant they had to go to a real-life emergency.
  • Year 2 SATs

Thu 23 May 2019 Mr Pegram

Year 2 children have been working really hard all week completing their year 2 SATs. They have one more paper to go and they should be congratulated for completing them in such a sensible and focused way. A big thank-you to all the staff in year 2 who have worked incredibly hard to ensure the children are prepared for their tests and also marking huge numbers of papers this week.

Keep up the great work Year 2.

  • EAL Afternoon

Thu 23 May 2019 Mr Pegram

Today was our second EAL afternoon and our theme this half-term was the country of Poland. Children learnt about the culture, language and geography of Poland and were taught some key words and phrases by the Polish children in their year groups. They all did a fabulous job as teachers. The same children then enjoyed a mini Polish feast in the school hall with their fellow Poles. They all had a brilliant time- a huge thanks must go to Mrs Della Rocca who once more planned and resources activities across the school.

More information and photos will be posted in the EAL section of the school website.

  • Kurling Champions

Tue 21 May 2019 Mr Pegram/ Miss Fyfe

Today, a team of eight year 5 and year 6 pupils travelled to Harvey Hadden Stadium with Miss Fyfe and Mrs Green for a Nottingham City Kurling Championship.

The team played brilliantly and after a set of games the results were announced...…. and Southglade Primary School were declared the Kurling champions for the whole of Nottingham City.

This is a fantastic result and adds to a series of sporting successes for the school in recent weeks.

What makes our school even prouder, was that their behaviour was impeccable throughout with great sportsmanship on show throughout.

Photos of the winning team will be added in due course!

Once more, a huge well done!!

    Congratulations

A huge well done to our truly wonderful year 6 pupils. You have been incredible this week whilst taking your SATS.

We are so proud of how well you have approached these tests and the resilience and positive attitudes that you have displayed throughout.

Once more, well done to everyone!

  • Football Team Success

Wed 15 May 2019 Mr Pegram

    Football Champions!!!

A huge congratulations to Southglade Primary School's football team who are the City North champions.

Over the season they competed magnificently against other schools across the north of the city with a fantastic record of:

    Played 10  Won 7 Drawn 2 Lost 1  Points 27

They scored a brilliant 46 goals (20 more than any other team in the league)  whilst conceding a miserly 10 goals. Their goal difference was +36; the next best team had a goal difference of +14.

We are SO proud of you all and all that you have achieved. A special thanks goes to Mr Shuttleworth and Mrs Finnie who have given up several evenings to support the fantastic football team. Also thank-you to all of the parents who have supported the team through some very cold and wintery evenings!

Watch out Manchester City and Liverpool!

  • Southglade's Act of Kindness

Wed 15 May 2019 Miss Smith

On Wednesday 15th May, Miss Smith and 12 Y2/Y3 children met with Kerry Lovell from Nottingham Hospice to discuss what happens at the Hospice and how they help people. We talked about how the volunteers and employees support people when they visit and how these people are unwell so they come to have care in the day.

We heard the story of 'The Paper Dolls' and talked about how we can show kindness in the community, creating a kindness acrostic poem linked to the words we heard the residents had said about their time at the Hospice. Over the next few weeks we are going to create some artwork and poetry to support the people at the hospice by showing them kindness and hopefully brightening their day.
