  • Local Councillors come to Southglade for RSE Day 2019

Thu 27 Jun 2019 Miss Smith and Mrs Morton

National RSE day took place on Thursday 27th June. We were fortunate enough to have two local Councillors visit Southglade to see the wonderful work we have been doing.

Year 2 learnt about stereotypes and discussed different roles and jobs in society. Year 3 discussed peer pressure and a range of strategies/scenarios linked to this topic.

It was a very successful day which was very postively received by the councillors and children.

  • Triaquathon- CITY WINNERS!

Thu 27 Jun 2019 Miss Finnie

On Monday 17th June, Southglade Primary School attended a brand new sports competition called a Triaquathon. This consists of 3 events all in water. These were: running, swimming and cycling! We took 20 outstanding Key Stage 2 children .

Excitingly, we were crowned champions of the whole city finishing top of the leaderboard.

Our pupils completed 9 miles in total and on average swam and ran 724 metres. This was the highest average total of all of the schools beating the second placed school (Southwark) by an average of 16 metres.

We are all so proud of you!

  • Police Dog Visit to Southglade Primary School

Tue 18 Jun 2019 Mr Pegram

Today, children from Year 1 to Year 6 were fortunate to meet Police Dog Ross and PC Tony Chambers who is a trained dog handler with Nottinghamshire Police.

The children were left amazed at the skills of Ross as he successfully showcased his special talents at keeping children and adults safe across the streets of Nottingham and Bestwood through Operation Reacher. We all look forward to meeting Ross and Tony again at some point.

Below is a picture of the school council with Ross.

  • Bestwood Arts and Culture Week

Tue 18 Jun 2019 Mrs Dowse
This week is Bestwood Arts and Culture Week. It runs for the entire week with various events taking part in the local community. At Southglade Primary School we are spending some time creating art work based around the Southglade tree. Each year group will then create a piece of art work. We have also yarn bombed the outside of school to join in with the local community. Finally, some of our art work will be placed in local shops around the community- keep your eyes peeled!
  • W.E Workshop Day

Tue 18 Jun 2019 Mrs Mitchell

On Monday 17th June, 30 year 5 pupils took part in environmental workshops, ran by WE. They learnt all about team-building skills and how communicating is important when working together. Different issues were discussed including: transport, food production, plastics, energy and climate change.

All the children had a lovely day and were so engaged throughout. They will be developing these plans further when they are in Year 6.

Hopefully we will able to attend the 'We Day Nottingham' at the Royal Concert Hall in November.

  • Primary Parliament

Mon 17 Jun 2019 Mrs Morton

The Year 5 and 6 School Council members went to the Council House to work with School Council members from other schools. They discussed issues such as bullying, respect and  self-esteem issues such as bullying, respect, and self-esteem, and then considered how they could create positive messages around these issues to share with other children about healthy relationships. These developed these ideas through drama, art and  photography. In the afternoon, they designed and built train interiors for the transport Select Review. They considered what train interiors of the future need to have to ensure continued growth in rail travel.

  • Sporting Success

Thu 13 Jun 2019 Mr Pegram

This has been a very exciting week for sport at Southglade Primary School....

On Monday, a group of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils competed at a Novice Swimming Gala. They took part in a range of games and activities based in a swimming pool. They competed brilliantly and they ended up winning bronze medals.

Then on Wednesday, Southglade Primary School's fabulous basketball team competed at a city-wide basketball tournament ; this was a tournament that they had qualified for via semi-finals a few weeks earlier. Once more, the team played brilliantly with a positive mindset and completed their set of matches as an unbeaten team. Their fantastic performance led to them also winning bronze medals at this Nottingham City event.

Finally, on Thursday the PE team at Southglade Primary School were very pleased to receive a certificate to confirm that the school have been awarded the School Games gold award for our commitment, engagement and delivery of competitive school sport in 2018/19. Well done to Miss Finnie, Mrs Hampson, Mrs Finnie and Mr Parkes for all the hard work you have put in this year to ensure that so many pupils have had the opportunity to compete in a wide variety of sporting tournaments.
