'Believe to Achieve'

Life Skills

Here are some simple life skills for you to try with your children at home. yes

Knowing personal information

Does your child know their address or a family members telephone number in case of an emergency?

Spillages - Can your child help clean up after themselves if they spill something?

Planting a seedling

Planting a Seedling:

  •  Ask your child to dig a hole that’s slightly larger than the container the plant is in.
  • Once you remove the plant from the pot and place it in the hole, have them delicately push soil around it and pat it down.
  • Let your child water it with a gentle stream from a watering can with a perforated nozzle.

Can your child help prepare dinner?

Can your child help to get dinner ready? Collect food from cupboards/ fridge? Can you help them to prepare food? Simple chopping or peeling of food.

Can your child use their knife and fork? It's a great life skill to practice!

Simple way to tie your shoe laces

Here's a simple method to help teach your child how to tie shoe laces.

  • Fold each end of the lace into a single "bunny ear." You can hold the "ears" in place between your thumb and pointer finger on each hand.
  • Cross the bunny ears so that they form an "X" in the air.
  • Loop the bottom bunny ear over and through the top bunny ear. This will create a second knot.
  • Pull the bunny ears out to the side away from the shoe. This will create a square knot that will not easily come undone and will hold the shoe in place.
Do not worry if they are not picking it up and teaching them is getting frustrating for both of you, leave it and try again at another time.
