Southglade Primary School

'Believe to Achieve'

Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

Southglade Primary and Nursey school is situated in an area which is not culturally diverse. Therefore, we place a great emphasis on promoting diversity with the children. Assemblies are regularly planned to address this issue either directly or through the inclusion of stories and celebrations from a variety of faiths and cultures. Our PSHE skills ladder and Religious Education teaching also reinforces this ethos.

EAL Afternoons

Throughout each year we have different EAL afternoons where we plan a range of activities and focus on a different language and culture. We take part in a range of activities linked to different countries around the world.

This year we have focused on Spain, and previously we have learned about Poland, Italy and Pakistan including their flags, the language, food and clothing. We have learnt words including numbers, colours, shapes, saying hello and goodbye.

RE Celebration Day

During the school year we have three celebration days, where we focus on a celebration from one of the religions that are studied throughout the Key Stages.  In November 2021 we looked at the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah.  Children were immersed in a variety of interactive and engaging activities that taught them about this important Jewish celebration.
