ELSA stands for Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. Mrs McCarthy is a trained ELSA. She plans specific interventions for children who need support with their emotions. Children really enjoy ELSA sessions and especially enjoy a drink and a biscuit and a chance to talk with Mrs McCarthy. ELSA is usually 1 to 1 support, but sometimes children can be part of a group.

Areas supported include anxiety, anger, confidence and bereavement. All children can see Mrs McCarthy. They can be referred by their teacher or can self refer if they feel they need help with their emotions.
