Welcome back to school after a short but sweet half term holiday. 

This half term we are learning all about traditional tales, also known as fairy tales. We are focusing on 4 books in particular - 'Jack and the Beanstalk', 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff', 'The Gingerbread Man' and 'Goldilocks and Three Bears'.

The children have already looked at story starters for fairy tales and are able to notice traditional story openings, such as 'Once upon a time', 'One day', 'In a land, far far away' and 'Once there lived'. They have also used these when writing a sentence during their writing task.

The children have now learnt all of the sounds that we will be learning in Reception. They have grasped the new digraphs and trigraphs extremely well and have now moved onto blending and  segmenting longer words, such as 'laptop', 'sunset', 'timid' 'boxer' and 'pattern'.
