'Believe to Achieve'

Summer 2

2S' last ever PE lesson!

Arts week.

This week is arts week. In year 2 we are focussing on the artist Walter Mason. He does lots of art with nature, like leaves, water, flowers and splashes. He uses a lot of wavy patterns in his art.

Here are some of Walter's art pieces:

We were inspired by Walter Mason and went to the Ridge to create our own artwork in the pond. Have a look at our photos below.

2S made a Water Mason inspired big piece of art outside with some colourful leaves!

English

Being persuasive.

We worked with a partner to be persuasive. We had to do things like convince a lion to eat a salad, or convince Miss Storer to wake up early on a weekend (which would take a lot of persuading!!)

Have a look at our videos below.

RE: The story of Jonah and the Whale

In RE we have been learning about Jonah and the Whale. We have used puppets to re-tell the story in pairs. We really enjoyed the part where Jonah was swallowed by the whale!

PSHE- What makes me special poem

In PSHE we have been thinking about what makes us unique and special. We have been thinking about how our differeces are what make us unique and how we can show tolerance towards someone who is different to us.

Have a listen to some of our poems below!

RSE afternoon

On RSE day in Year 2, we learnt about our family trees. We thought about our learning value 'Tolerance' and used some of our Oracy skills to talk about what makes our family unique. Some of us even shared our family photos with the class. We then use oil pastels and our previous sketching skills to draw a family portrait of our family.

RE:  Creation Story using Stop Motion

Today we have used stop motion to retell the Jewish Creation Story. Take a look at some of our videos below!

Curriculum Driver: DT-Cooking

This half term for our curriculum driver, we are looking at foods from around the world. We have started learning about where different fruits and vegetables are grown. We noticed how much of our foods come from other countries! We have also looked at how fruits, such as bananas, are transported to England without being damaged or spoilt.

We began our cooking experience this week by thinking about safety in cooking, especially using hot equipment and knifes. We use our knife skills to cut up different fruits in pairs and made our own mini fruit salads. We loved eating it whilst listening to a story!

Science: Seed dispersal

This half term we are continuing our topic of plants in science. We have been learning about how plants disperse their seeds to ensure new plants grow. We learnt that there are lots of different ways that plants may do this such as through the wind, by birds, by bursting or by water.

We then painted a picture of a dandilion, showing how the wind carries the new seeds and settles them in their new place ready to grow. After that, we made our own sycamore seeds 'helicopters'. We used a paper clip and paper to show how the seeds fall from the tree and helicopter to the ground ready to grow.

RE: Judaisim

In RE, we have started learning all about Judaism. We have learnt how Jews go to the synagogue to pray, that their holy book is called the Torah and that their symbol is the Star of David. We then compared this to what we have been learning about in Christianity.

We then used lollipop sticks, painted them blue and made them into the Star of David. We took them home to hang up.
