'Believe to Achieve'

Summer 1

This half term we will be focusing on our new text- The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Rauf. This story is about a young boy called Ahmet who moves to London from Syria. Ahmet is a refugee, and the story focuses on how life is different for Ahmet in his new school. We will be discussing journeys that refugees might take and the reasons why they might need to leave their homes. We will be writing our own stories and persuasive letters in English.

Our curriculum driver is Geography and we will be focusing on different biomes around the world as we explore what causes migration. We will be identifying the migration route of different animals and discussing the significance of the equator, northern and southern hemispheres.

In Maths we will be looking at money, including converting and ordering as well as subtracting and finding change. We will also spend the rest of the half term focusing on telling the time to the nearest minute.

In Science, we will be looking at living things and their habitats. We will also link this with our geography work by exploring different biomes, and the impact of global warming, reforestation and pollution on these biomes and habitats.

Finally, our learning value for this half term is to make everyone feel valued, and we will be developing our understanding of how Dolly Parton, Jamie Oliver and Floella Benjamin represent this learning value.
