Can you summarise what the rules are?

When a word ends in 'le', we remove the e and add ly.

When a word just ends in e, we keep the e and add ly.

English

Welcome to Friday's Grammar!

Today we are going to be looking at something new. We are going to learning all about possessive apostrophes.

Can you remember what an apostrophe is? We have looked at these before when we have looked at contractions such as don't, can't and won't. These apostrophes show where our missing letters would go. For example-

don't - do not.

can't- can not

won't- will not.

Today we won't be using apostrophes to show where missing letters should go, instead we are going to use apostrophes to show that an object belongs to someone. For example

Mrs Bragg's pen.

Miss Storer's book.

Did you notice that the apostrophe went after the persons name and before the s?

Activity:

Have a look around your house. Can you name some items? Who do they belong to? For example:

Mum's hairbrush.

Dad's coat.

George's toy car.

Maggie's candle.

Remember: if someones name already ends with an s, just add an apostrophe after name. Do not add another s.

For example: Lewis' chocolate bar.

How many things can you list?

Maths

We are looking at patterns with 3D shapes today, just like we did with 2D shapes.

Have a look around your house for some 3D shapes that you could make patterns with!
