'Believe to Achieve'

Autumn 2

This half term we are learning about The Romans and our class text is Escape from Pompeii. The children have really engaged with this book as it explores the topic of Mount Vesuvius.

This week we have started to explore our Romans topic. We have created a time line toilet roll to begin to understand where the Romans fit in with our previous Stone Age topic and present day.

In English we are writing narrative pieces based on our text Escape From Pompeii. We are also learning lots of new vocabulary from our book.

We have been building on our Roman knowledge learning about Julius Caesar and Roman invasions. We have celebrated Remembrance Day and Diwali this week.

We have started Love For Reading sessions and we have been focussing on Roald Dahl. We have really engaged with this and can't wait to find out more about him and his books.

Continuing with our knowledge about the Romans and exploring our enquiry question - What did Romans do for us we have been looking at Boudica and the invasions on Britain. We have learnt more about the different types of housing Romans lived in and how they are very different to Stone Age and Iron Age people who came before them. We were so lucky to look at a REAL Stone Age tool sent in by a parent to have a look at and discuss how it might have been used.

This week we have started looking at poetry in our English lessons. Over the next few weeks the children will be writing their own poetry and learning about performing poetry by heart. In science we have been developing our learning about light and shadows. Our Roman knowledge this week has been all about Hadrian's wall, the children have been doing lots of reading and working in teams to develop their communication skills.

Rainbow Day Celebration

In year 3 was full of fun games and craft activities we looked at being kind and shared some kindness stories. We created messages of kindness for our friends and family. we started to get festive as Christmas is creeping around the corner.

This week Christmas has been in full swing! We have been very busy this week preparing for our upcoming virtual Christmas Performance. Both Year 3 classes have filmed our Christmas parts and can not wait for you to see it all together. We have managed to fit in some brilliant poetry writing and sharing as well as a really fun afternoon Kurling which was a little treat!
