'Believe to Achieve'

Our adventure so far

Week 6

Our final week of Spring 1 and what a busy week it has been! We have been so lucky to have Hobgoblin Theatre Company come into school and perform Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We didnt just get to watch the show but we also got to do some acting of our own!

It was also Valentines Day and Year One spent some time thinking about the ones they love. We talked about the history of Valentines Day and how we can show love to our family and friends. We decorated some yummy cupcakes and made cards for our loved ones. A super way to end a wonderful half term :)

Week 5

We have had another wonderful week in Year One. We started our week by recieving a letter from the police. They told us that they think that their orignial investigation into the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs was incorrect and now they are opening the investigation back up. They needed Year 1's help to prove the Wolfs innocence and thats exactly what they did!

Using the story we picked apart key evidence and added these to our persuasive sentence starters. The children wrote wonderful letters back to the police telling them of the wolf's innocence. We can't wait to find out whether we were sucessful in releasing the Wolf from prison!

In maths this week we have been investigating place value, looking at tens and ones in 2 digit numbers. We have become super detectives with drawing tens and ones and our fluent counting skills are really showing through! Next week we will continue to look at worded problems to help us apply our new knowledge.

Week 4

This week we recieved a strange bag. We used inference to find out who the bag belonged to. There was a bowl, 3 pig bones, sharp teeth and a book. When we researched into it further we concluded that the bag must have been left by the Big Bad Wolf!

We have worked super hard this week to evidence our ideas to persuade someone else. We have noticed how to use quotation marks to provide evidence and have started looking at persuasive sentence openers.

In Maths we have started looking at Subtraction and how we can use the inverse to work out tricky number problems. The children have really enjoyed using the resources in our classroom to prove their answers!

Fantastic week 1B and 1M!

Week 3

What a super week we have had! This week we have been learning all about the Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk. We have noticed and compared similarities and differences between the orignially story and this twisted tale. We thought about adjectives and descriptions and used this knowledge to describe our very own sweet. We tasted tangy, sour, sweet and juicy sweets to help us with our descriptions.

In maths this week we have been learning about subtraction and how this means we get less. We looked at number lines to help us accuratly find the answer. We also noticed how the part, part whole model can help us find subtraction number sentences.

Super work Year One :)

Week 2

This week has been a busy one! We have been learning how to write the story of Jack and Beanstalk and have done a super job of editing our own work.

In maths we have been practicing our number bonds to 10 and 20.

We have also had Warburtons in Year One to teach us all about healthy eating and we had a go at making our own Pizzas. Yummy!

Week 1

We are super happy to see our wonderful Year Ones after the Christmas break. They seem to have grown up over the holidays and are ready for a fun packed half term.

We started back with a bang! We have been learning all about the traditonal tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and have started to re-write the story in sequence. We are learning how to use exciting language to uplevel our writing and engage the reader.

In Maths we are continuing to look at addition and our important number bonds to ten.

We have also been recapping counting in 2's, 5's and 10's. Below are some of our favourite videos.
