  • Cross Country Relay

Tue 26 Sep 2023 Mr Pegram

On Tuesday 26th September, a group of 8 Y5 and Y6 pupils competed at the inaugural relay cross-country championships at Harvey Hadden athletics track. The boys and girls teams both had 30 minutes to run as many laps around the 400m track as possible.

Both teams did incredibly and finished in 5th position overall. This was out of 25 schools so they did Southglade proud with impeccable behaviour.

The girls managed 18 laps and the boys 17 laps and we were one of only three schools that had both their teams in the top 5.

Myself and Mrs Finnie were so proud of them!

Below are a couple of pictures of our team.

  • Y6 Safety Zones

Tue 19 Sep 2023 Mr Pegram

On Monday 18th September, Y6 pupils went to the Safety Zone. This was a great event where children learnt about; safety around railway line with the British Transport Police; safety around electricity with the National Grid; cyber safety with Nottinghamshire Police; using public transport in a safe fashion with Nottingham City Transport; safety around water with the RNLI; first aid training with East Midlands Ambulance Service and fire safety with Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.

The children learnt a lot during their visit and hopefully this will empower them to make sensible choices moving forwards.

  • Y6 Holocaust Centre Visit

Tue 12 Sep 2023 Mr Pegram

On Tuesday 12th September, Y6 visited the Holocaust Centre to find out about the impact that WW2 had on children who were Jewish and lived in mainland Europe. We followed the story of a young Jewish boy called Leo through an interactive museum experience.

The children then had the opportunity to meet a Holocaust survivor, called Hedi Argent, via Zoom and to ask her questions. It was a real privilege to listen to the life-story of someone who has seen so much in her 93 years.

This was a memorable and important day for the children and it highlighted why it is important to learn from the past to inform the choices that we make in the future.
