'Believe to Achieve'

Summer 1

Hello everyone,

We hope you have had a lovely Easter break and are ready to come back to school for Summer term! The children had a fantastic Spring term and we are looking forward to introducing a new topic and new focus book, which will be 'Superworm'. Our enquiry question is 'I wonder what is living in the garden?' and we have lots of wonderful things planned! Ensure you are checking the website every week to see what we have been up to smiley

Week 1

The children have had a lovely week and have done incredibly well with getting back to their routines. This week, as part of our enquiry question, we have been learning about respecting animals and insects. The children had chance to talk about how we can care for them and what we can do to help with the environment that they live in. Lots of children have shared that they have bug hotels at home!

We also celebrated Earth Day by discussing what we could do to help protect our planet and read 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers. The children got creative by using their fingers to paint around some flowers.

Week 2

The children thoroughly enjoyed reading our 'Superworm' story for the first time this week! We read it twice this and completed some lovely writing about different pages of the book on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we looked at the life cycle of a butterfly and the children had the chance to put the pictures into the correct order! We can't wait to tell them about the real butterfly garden we are going to have soon!

Week 3

The children have thoroughly enjoyed their 3 day week this week! We have been very lucky with the sunshine as we got to explore Lorretta's Garden! The children were able to hunt for minibeasts, wildlife and explore nature and use a tally sheet for the first time!

We are very impressed with the fantastic writing the children completed this week, writing sentences about what minibeasts and wildlife they saw in Lorretta's Garden!

Week 4

What another great week we've had!

This week we have had a visit from White Post Farm and the children got to stroke and even hold some of the animals. They saw a lizard, hissing cockroach, giant millipede, a mouse, a gerbil, a guinea pig and even a snake!

Most of the children stroked the snake and we were very impressed that all of the children let the guinea pig sit on their lap, even if they were initially really scared!

Week 5

This week we have been looking at the kind plants we would expect to see living in our gardens. We specifically focused on the life cycle of a sunflower and the children learnt some new vocabulary, such as 'stem' and 'bud'.

On Friday the children went on a walk around the school grounds to collect different natural objects, such as sticks and leaves. They used these to create some transient at pictures. Some of their creations were really beautiful. See below.

Week 6

Happy last week of Summer 1 term! We are so proud of the children that have tried super hard this year with their learning, as we come to the end of the year. This week, we have been finishing our topic of Minibeasts by making clay models of their favourite bug! We have had some wonderful creations and the children thoroughly enjoyed making them. As well as this, the children have written about their favourite minibeast using full sentences! We hope the children have enjoyed this terms topic, and are looking forward to learning about Pirates in the last term!
