  • Primary Parliament

Fri 15 Mar 2019 Mrs Della Rocca
Today, our Year 5 and Year 6 school councillors went to the Primary Parliament event at the Council House. They had to create a garden plan to encourage schools to grow their own food and to be sustainable and to limit the amount of waste that is thrown away. Mrs Della Rocca was told that their plan was one of the best the councillors had seen. They were a credit to the school and we are all very proud of them.

On Tuesday 5th March 2019, children in ks2 got to take part in the annual Road Safety Quiz- they had to answer 20 multiple choice questions linked to transportation and road safety in Nottingham. The children behaved in an impeccable fashion and were a credit to the whole school. We scored 71% in the test.

Each class teacher picked a winning book character costume and these winners are shown below. All staff would like to thank parents and carers for the amazing effort they put in to their children's outfits- we were blown away by the creativity on show throughout the school.

  • Year 5 Bikeability

    Wed 06 Mar 2019 Katelyn Year 5

Year 5 have been taking part in a cycling safety scheme known as bikeability. On the first morning, we all went to meet the bikeability people who were called Michael and Paul. We then went out and got our bikes or used a Nottingham City Council bike to use safely on the streets. We had to do the ABCD check (air, breaks, chain, drop) to ensure that our bikes were safe and roadworthy. Following this, we had to ride our bikes on the road- it was really fun. We had to ride in the primary position (the middle of the lane) so that the cars behind us knew we were there and couldn't overtake us. We learnt how to ride with one hand on both sides. We had to learn this so that we could indicate  to cars behind us that we were turning. Moreover, we also learnt to do a U-turn incase we were going in the wrong direction.

It was fun and exciting and I would definitely do something like it again and I would recommend children at Southglade Primary School do it at school in the future,
