    Wellbeing Day - Health

The theme of our wellbeing day this half-term was health. In Year 5, we got sweaty during an African Dance workshop, and a team from St John's ambulance taught us all about DRABC and how to safely apply CPR. During the day in class, we also took part in different activities linking to Articles 24 and 27. These included becoming sleep scientists, identifying what a good sleep might look like and giving advice on how to achieve this. We created our own balanced meal for a Year 5 pupil. We then practised staying within a budget whilst still trying to provide a healthy and balanced meal. This proved more difficult. Finally, we explored the benefits of being active and the short term and long term affects an inactive lifestyle can have on your body.

    DT Cooking lesson 2

During our recent cooking lesson, the children explored the importance of hygiene and safe food practices in the kitchen. They learnt about preventing cross-contamination and discussed how to keep themselves and others safe while preparing food.

The class then had the opportunity to put their skills into practice by preparing bananas. They carefully used the bridge hold and claw grip techniques to cut safely and confidently, demonstrating excellent control and awareness.

Taster day at Park Vale Academy

We visited Park Vale Academy for their annual Year 5 taster day. The day consisted of English, Maths, Science and PE. Throughout the day, different activities included testing liquids to see if they were acid r alkali on the PH scale, rowing relays on rowing machines, team building games, maths problems, team building skills and much more.

    Greek Cooking

We prepped and cooked our Greek cuisine in the DT room this week. We made chicken souvlaki, Greek salad and Tzatziki, which we then enjoyed eating together!
