  • Summer 2

This half term, our class text is The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, an exciting adventure story set in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest.

In English, we will be developing our skills in writing balanced arguments, explanation texts and instructional writing, all linked to our learning about the Amazon Rainforest.

Our curriculum drivers this half term are History, Geography and Art. Through these subjects, we will explore a range of fascinating enquiry questions:

    • Art: I wonder what artist techniques I can use to create a 2D or 3D rainforest picture inspired by John Dyer?
    • History: I wonder how the people of Benin lived and what their influence has been on the wider world?
    • Geography: I wonder why the Amazon Rainforest is the most diverse ecosystem in the world?

Throughout the half term, children will investigate these questions through research, discussion, practical activities and creative projects.

As we approach the end of the academic year, Year 6 pupils will also be busy rehearsing for our end-of-year production of Bugsy Malone. Children will also be completing transition activities to help prepare them for the move to secondary school.
