  • Year 5 explore London

On Friday 12th June 2026, 15 year 5 pupils, along with Mrs Thomas, Mr Pegram and Mrs Mitchell set off for a day trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament.

Our day began bright and early, with everyone meeting at school at 6:45am, full of anticipation for the adventure ahead. We set off on the bus to town to catch the 08:13 train to St Pancras, marking the start of a memorable trip to London.

Upon arrival, we navigated the London Underground and made our way to The Mall, just in time to witness the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. The atmosphere was especially vibrant, as preparations were underway for the Trooping of the Colour taking place the following day, meaning the area was buzzing with activity and visitors.

After taking in this iconic tradition, we headed to Green Park for lunch. Here, we enjoyed a well-earned rest and were entertained by some very curious (and quite friendly!) pigeons who joined us.

Refreshed and recharged, we continued our journey on foot through the streets of London, taking in the sights, sounds, and unique atmosphere of the capital. Our destination was the Houses of Parliament, where we spent a truly special afternoon as invited guests. During our visit, we enjoyed an informative tour, learning about democracy and the rule of law. Highlights included visiting both the House of Lords and the House of Commons – and even meeting a real Lord!

To round off the day, we returned to Green Park for a well-deserved ice cream before heading back on the Underground to St Pancras for our journey home.

It was a fantastic day from start to finish. The children’s behaviour was exceptional throughout, and they represented Southglade with pride – we couldn’t be prouder of them!
