Foundation Stage Newsletter : Spring 1

Dear Parents,

I would like to wish you all a belated Happy New Year!  The children have settled back into Nursery well, and a special welcome to all our new starters this term! On the back of this letter you can see some of the objectives and activities for this half term.

Focus Books

We have a focus book for each half term, so that over their time with us the children build up a bank of stories that they know really well and can retell. This will particularly support their Communication and Literacy skills.

This half term our book is Supertato by Sue Hendra, to go with our Topic which is Superheros! The children are loving the story so far and have been dressing up as Superheroes in our Superhero Den.

Rhyme of the Week

Every Monday we will continue to send home a Rhyme of the Week which we will be singing every day n nursery. The children love to see what the new rhyme is each week and it would be great if you could help them practise singing it at home. Learning songs and rhymes really helps children to pick up reading skills when they are older.

Reading Books

Each Friday we will send home a story book which your child has chosen, for you to share at bedtime or any quiet moment. Please record when you read the book in your child’s reading diary – if you read 3 times in a week your child will get a star on their reading owl. Completed reading owls are rewarded with a certificate and small prize!

Guinea Pigs

Thank you to all the families who helped to care for our two Guinea Pigs over weekends and holidays last term.  If you are interested in helping this term please let a member of staff know and we will arrange a date.

Please ensure children’s names are written in sweatshirts, cardigans and coats to help us track down any lost items. Please let us know if you have missing items and we will do our best to track it down.

Just a reminder that children need to bring a named water bottle with them to school everyday, and if possible, a bag with a change of clothes in case of emergency!

Thank-you for all your support, Mrs. Barron, Mrs. Betteridge and Miss. Parr
