Homework in Y5 is optional. However, there are rewards for completion of homework. Any proof of spelling practice, completing your 4 reads, completing something from the homework menu, doing 5 or more minutes of TTRS at home, or taking home any of the optional homework sheets from class will be rewarded. Children will receive a raffle ticket in the jar for every returned piece of homework, and at the end of every week, a name will be pulled out of the jar to have a dip in the prize box.

PE

5F PE is on a Tuesday. 5S PE is on a Friday. Please ensure your child brings their PE kit with them to school to change into. This should be a white top, black bottoms (leggings, joggers, shorts) and suitable shoes (trainers/plimsolls).

On our first day back, we reminded ourselves of our school rules and how we can represent our RESPECT code of conduct in school. We explored the world of Vikings including Viking runes. We wrote our names in Viking runes and wrote messages to the other Year 5 class for them to decode. In the afternoon, we created our inner and outer selves, displaying our interests, hobbies and personality traits on the inside.

We explored Viking shields, what colours are used and why, what symbols might be used and why, and then used this information to create our own Viking shields. We also looked at Viking artefacts and practised sketching them, paying close attention to the details and shapes on them.

 Today we introduced Macbeth. We spoke about working as a team and what skills we will need to build up. We looked at different games that used non-verbal communication and how actions help us recall a story or event. We explored the witches/spirits and what atmosphere we might need, e.g., eerie, thunder, lightning and rain. We created a soundscape orchestra taking on different sounds of the thunderstorm. Following this, we introduced the text spoken by the witches and put this together with actions.
