Year 3 Year 3 Summer Term 2017 Newsletter Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome to the Summer Term where we will hopefully have some sun! This term, our topic is called ‘Explosive!’ We will be learning about Earth, different types of volcanoes and making our very own explosive volcanoes! Our literacy work will be based around the exciting and intriguing book ‘The Firework Maker’s Daughter’ and our focus in mathematics will be fractions, multiplication and division and shape. We will continue our focus on times-tables and expect the children to be learning their times tables each week.
Homework- Reading at Home- Better readers become better writers. Part of your child’s homework is to complete at least three reads a week at home, but every day would be preferable. Reading is tracked through our Reading Stars. Every home read is recorded and prizes awarded. When you listen to your child read, please write a comment in their diary. In addition, children are expected to learn and practise their times-tables and learn spellings that will be sent home every week. If the children complete their 3 reads and achieve 7/13 on their spellings, they will be given Golden Time on a Friday afternoon where they will have treats and different activities to reward them for their hard-work in their homework for that week. Please encourage your child to do their reads and spellings so they can achieve Golden Time.
PE- PE will be on Mondays for Class 3M and Thursdays for Class 3C but please try to bring PE kits in at the start of the week and leave them in school just in case our timetable changes. A reminder that PE kit should consist of a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and trainers/plimsolls. Long hair must be tied back and earrings need to be removed or plasters sent in to cover the earlobes.
Water bottles- We ask that your child brings a bottle of water to school with them each day especially as the weather will be getting warmer.
Home-time- Please make sure your child knows where you will collect them from. The children will wait in the classroom until someone comes to collect them.
We are looking forward to the rest of this year with Year 3. If there is anything you are concerned about or wish to know, then please feel free to come in and talk to us. After school is usually the best time as we like to get started promptly! Remember that school starts at 8:45am!
